International Catholic Child Bureau – BICE, has initiated a program of mentoring and training on resilience with two Marist projects working with migrants and refugees: Project Brothers (Lebanon) and Tierra de Todos – Nuevos Horizontes (Spain).
The two Marist projects, Fratelli Projects and Tierra de Todos – Nuevos Horizontes, were included by the BICE (International Catholic Child Bureau) in the resilience tutoring program. The program aims to reinforce the main characteristics of the tutor in promoting the processes of resilience in children and adolescents victims of war and migration.
Resilience
Resilience is the ability of an individual or group to overcome great difficulties and grow in life. It may involve trauma, severe poverty, serious illness, heavy mourning or other problems. The diary of Anne Frank or the life of Nelson Mandela are famous examples of resilience.
Other less known routes can illustrate this “definition” of resilience. In our environment, we certainly know a family member, a friend, a neighbor or colleague who has suffered child abuse, or who has had a very difficult life, but is positive and smiling without any pretense.
Resilience is the ability to rebuild one’s life and sometimes turn a misfortune into something positive. It remains difficult to study the resilience of children. We do not see it as they do, but we see the consequences of resilience: the paths of life that surprises us.
