The Cardenal Cisneros University Center begins the Marist agreement with the Gregorian University for the protection of children.
The Center for Child Protection (CCP) of the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome is one of the most important Catholic references in the prevention of sexual abuse and, in general, in the protection of children in the world. At the beginning of 2017, FMSI signed a cooperation agreement with the CCP to issue the “Protect: our commitment” program in the universities and Marist provinces of the various continents.
The objectives of this program are: to promote the protection of children by promoting the prevention of sexual abuse and other types of abuse and to increase the sensitivity on the importance of creating healthy and safe environments.
In this way, the Cardenal Cisneros University Center in Alcalá de Henares (Spain) began, on October 1st, a course for 97 Marist teachers, advisers and directors from Spain, Portugal, Romania, Greece, France, Hungary and Lebanon.
The course is developed in semi-face mode. A series of readings and assessments are followed through a virtual platform and face-to-face sessions are held to deepen and discuss problems with specialists in the field.
Among the contents of the course there are: good treatment, culture and childhood, risk factors and protection against abuse, signs and indicators in people who are victims of sexual abuse, family abuse and its consequences.
It is very likely that other Marist organizations and universities will also be added to the Cardenal Cisneros University Center, such as the PUC of Paraná (Brazil), the Marcelino Champagnat University of Lima (Peru) and the Marista University of Mérida (Mexico).
This is a very concrete way of putting into practice the call that, once again, the XXII General Chapter has done: “Engage ourselves firmly in the promotion and defense of children’s rights”.
