Keeping children safe
In the city of General Santos, the Marcellin Foundation Center was created to welcome and promote the social reintegration of street children and young people who are in conflict with the law.
Marist Brother Crispin Betita and his collaborators manage the activities for the rehabilitation program which is organized in different steps: meeting the children in the places where they live, reception at the hostels of the center, psychological support, educational programs for those who have never attended or have abandoned school, vocation training courses and job placement support. The center also provides a scholarship program to enable children to continue their education and has developed a network of local companies for work placement of the children after the vocational training.
Thanks to the program, many children have been able to leave the illegal traffic cycle and build their future.
Given the results of the program, Marcelin Foundation has signed several agreements with local Municipalities to create alternative routes to prison for children in conflict with the law and for training the social operators in the Region.
