The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon had reached critical levels following the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which began on September 23 and devastated large areas of the country, particularly in the South, the Bekaa Valley, and Beirut. Despite the announcement of a ceasefire and the return of thousands of citizens to the south, Lebanese families, including women and children, had continued to require urgent assistance. Upon their return, many had found their homes destroyed and had been forced to endure further bombings. The death toll had surpassed 3,800 people, many of them civilians, with more than 15,000 injured and 1.2 million internally displaced, including over 300,000 children. The estimated damages amounted to $8.5 billion, including at least 100,000 homes.
In response to this emergency, FMSI launched a fundraising campaign to support the Fratelli Project, which, in coordination with the Fratelli Council, had chosen to remain operational despite the risks, continuing its mission to assist the community in need. Although significant efforts had been made to address the crisis, the situation had remained critical for a long time, and the emergency had not been resolved immediately. The continued commitment of the project had been essential in providing a minimum of relief and dignity to those affected by the conflict, who had continued to live in extreme vulnerability.
The activities of the Fratelli Project had included:
- A daily educational space where around 50 children had found a calm and safe environment, played, and received a snack.
- Family visits to listen to their needs and provide psychological and social support.
- Distribution of humanitarian aid, including mattresses, food, and hygiene supplies, to alleviate the suffering of displaced families.
Thanks to the generosity of many, FMSI had been able to provide tangible assistance to those most in need during those difficult times. The support received had been crucial in sustaining emergency efforts and helping families navigate the challenges of rebuilding their lives.
Now that the situation has evolved, we want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to the fundraising campaign and supported our work. Together, we were able to make a difference for thousands of people who endured this crisis
