Maris Stella College (Thimbirigaskatuwa) Sri Lanka photography “Towards school” wins the “Children on the Move” photographic contest organized by the Marist Foundation for International Solidarity on the occasion of the 10th anniversary.

In second place, with equal merit, are “Juan, who dreamed of football”, of Augusto Cambón, Nicolás Altez, Avril Da Costa, Manuela Machado, Giuliana Barbero and Francisco Scarrone (Santa Maria school – Uruguay) and “Obstacles” of Brother Eugenio Sanz (School of Molouvibazar in Bangladesh). The winner will be awarded a trip to Geneva at the United Nations building, where the Universal Periodic Reviews on the Rights of the Child take place, to which FMSI actively participates.

The qualified jury, called to evaluate the shots in competition, was composed as follows: Mario Laporta, KontroLab photojournalist; Cristiano Minichiello, Agf photojournalist; Toni Capuozzo, war correspondent; Marco Bova, videomaker and journalist; Laura Aprati, producer, author and journalist; Emanuela Bonchino, Rai journalist; Marco Amato, photographer; Conor Ashleigh, photographer.

Alongside the quality jury, online voting was also held, which was extremely successful: over 20 thousand votes were collected on the Foundation’s website. Here the three most voted photos are: “The solitude” of Santiago Panizza, Rodrigo García, Florencia Fernández and Pilar Laffitte (Santa Maria, Uruguay), the “The suitcase” of Facundo Reboiras, Dalma Benítez, Belem Gadea, Mateo Hayek, Rosina Machuca, Maia Fernandez (Santa Maria, Uruguay) and “Juan, who dreamed of football” by Augusto Cambón, Nicolás Altez, Avril Da Costa, Manuela Machado, Giuliana Barbero, Francisco Scarrone (Santa Maria, Uruguay).

The photo contest was attended by children and adolescents from schools and Marist Centers all over the world. The boys, invited to take part in the competition, had to take photographs that immortalized moments of their everyday life: as a whole, the project aims to raise the issue of children’s and youth rights, fueling the debate on this front.

Finally, sixteen photos were chosen for the exhibition exhibited in the Galleria Alberto Sordi in Rome which, by popular demand, has been extended to a date to be allocated.
